Once again weirdness happened with FA SP Takaaki Kakuta. I have TONS of money to spend so I made a ridiculous offer of 32 million the first season, followed by 24 million and 16/16 (if I remember correct). It worked out to about 88 million over 4 years. Instead he signs for 3 years at 8 million a season?

I know my offer was nuts but I am going to have so much wasted cash this season it would really only be an issue in year 2-4 and in theory, since this team is going nowhere any time soon, it still probably wouldn't be an issue. I've never encountered such weird behaviour by a FA and I can only hope my export didn't take or this is just unrealistic (and stupid).

No export from you for last sim, though I do have one on the server for you from about 20 mins ago, I'm assuming for the spring training sim.

As for Kakuta, I was a bit surprised he took the Vegas offer. Hell it was only a mil more than my "token" offer i made just for the hell of it. If I would of thought he would sign for that I probably would have been more serious.

Damn I'm sure I sent it (yeah that new one is for ST) but at least I can accept this better than him simply refusing my offer. My old offer was better as well but whatever.. stupid game.

If it makes you feel any better, he turned down a one year offer from me for over $60,000,000. I had the money to burn, and figured after spending the season in the minors he'd revert back to a mlc, and stay at the mlc, since he's not close to major-league-ready, until he was eligible for arbitration. I figured he just wanted a longer contract, so i offered him a reasonable 10 year contract, thinking i'd be paying him for about 3 seasons to play in the minors, but it wasn't enough.
I wouldn't be too upset...it's not like he's a 10-9-10 guy. At best he'd wind up as my #3, behind Sasaki and Hadsell, and hopefully my #4, also behind whatever SP i take with the #8 in the draft, and there is no guarantee he'll develop at all...but he is worth the risk because he doesn't cost any players or draft picks.
I'm hoping the $25,000,000 i gave to the half-a$$ed 3B i signed works out like i planned...mlc after this season...but that money would be lost to the cash cap anyway. he's currently projected to get over $20,000,000 when he does hit arb., but he won't be getting that from me. Smile
i think a few seasons in the minors will change that...but if not, i'll just release him, and won't have really lost anything.
in my other league in which these kind of foreign players enter the league, they are edited to arrive with 6 years of professional service, so this type of 'contract finagling' isn't possible.

That is an interesting idea.

Maybe this is what we need to do here too. Clearly things don't work as intended right now since my last offer (that successfully imported) was still far better and so was yours.

Really it's not a huge deal (like you said he's good but not a superstar) I just hate having so much money going to waste because of a buggy contract-negotiation AI. I purposefully avoided some of the higher contract guys in the expansion draft (and lost out on others) so I could make a splash on some young FA's. Now if I thought I would have a bunch of money again next year I wouldn't care but I have a feeling my fan interest is going to plummet and my budget will be MUCH smaller. Basically I had a one year window and now it's gone.

Oh well. Going to be a long build anyway.

editing foreign guys entering the league as free agents to arrive with 6 years professional service wouldn't stop the OOTP AI from doing strange things...but it does take away the 'minimal risk' factor that now exists. for instance, my giving the 3B a 1 year $25,000,000 contract would not lock him into the team for more than 1 year like it just did for me. after the coming season he'll have 1 year pro service time, and will not be eligible for free agency or arbitration. he'll have to take the mlc that OOTPX would give him for 2 more seasons until he's arb. eligible. if he arrived with 6 years pro service time, he would get a 'real' contract.

I like the sounds of this.

As with most things, it's a trial and error type deal. We purposely created this league with an open mind and a forum dedicated to correcting aspects of the league that aren't cutting it.

We may need to address the importing of players and the types of contracts they are receiving.

This sounds like a good place to start. Let's see what JT thinks...

Not a bad idea Mark. Honestly there were a handful of FA, 2 of whom were mentioned in this thread who really should not of been in the FA pool at all. The problem was we didnt notice them prior to putting out the FA file and didnt think it would be fair to tempt everyone with those FA and then take them away once they were already out there.....

I've made some changes to the Independent Leagues and we should never see any FA coming into the league that have no experience or stats. If somehow we still end up with some guys similar to the ones we saw this offseason, I think editing them to have 6 years of service time sounds like a solid idea.

We've tried to setup two different export trackers. Neither would work properly. Probably a user error, not programming. I wish I knew how to get something working...

Your team imported, I just looked at your draft list and I only saw players ranked on your round 1 list...Did you setup a list for each round?
