Prefers compensation package of $0 over 0 years ??? Empty Prefers compensation package of $0 over 0 years ???

Post  bholmes4 April 7th 2010, 10:55 am

So one of the players I am making a strong bid for just sent me a message that he prefers another teams "compensation package" of $0 over 0 years. This is a prospect-quality player so I have to assume that means he prefers a minor league contract bid someone made or does the "compensation package" mean something else (ie. incentives, no trade clause etc.)?

The thing is I am offering millions and millions and millions of dollars over 1 year so I hope it's the latter or this is badly bugged! I don't want to say what my offer is but NO one would turn it down for a MLC. Any ideas? Are one year contracts bugged this way? Are MLC requests bugged? I will provide exact details once he signs but right now I don't want to give my bid away.

You probably ran into an OOTP mishandling of FA contract offers. I think you are right about the wording 0/ 0 meaning a MLC, although it could be another kind of programming mistake. Some of the text messages the program generates are weak.

Unless a player has a severe preference against your team it seems a $ valued contract should always beat out an MLC. (Why I would like to see MLC contracts also have dollar values.) If it is an aversion to your team the message should say so.

The AI is just generally weak in so many areas-- if they put out a release that did nothing but improve the AI it would be worth it.

Pretty well said.

Without knowing the player involved and the numbers being tossed around, it's hard for me to do anything but guess as to why this is happening.

To me, it sounds like the player may not want to play for your franchise. I know we use the personality ratings and the morale system so, if it is a big name type player, it is possible that he doesn't want to play in an expansion city. Which would make a lot of sense.

Like I said though, I am guessing and have become callous to the little things OOTP does incorrectly. I guess I have gotten to the point where I let my imagination make up for OOTP's shortcomings. Very Happy

You can PM me your offer and the player you are targeting. I'd be happy to take a look into it.

FWIW I am already sitting at 100 mil salary and have my lineup card and pitching assignments filled for the upcoming season. So, you don't have to worry about leaking your negotiation info to a competitor. I am not in the FA market this year.

Ok,

After looking into this I can assure you guys that this is not a game bug but rather poor wording generated by the game.

PM sent back, Brandon.

Obviously I don't know who the player is, but I have a pretty good guess of it being a highly publicized Japanese import player and if thats the player in question, i know there are quite a few teams who have talked to me about him and have mentioned they put in some big money bids in for him.

The response messages from players have always been questionable at best. I've never seen a player take a MLC over a guaranteed Major League contract in OOTP10, but I have seen lots of confusing response messages. So don't put to much stock into the in game generated message.

Yeah after exploring this further it looks like things aren't as out of whack as I feared. I just didn't want to lose out to a bug and even though the game is probably handling this strangely at least it appears as though a strong offer has the lead. I just didn't want to find out I should have just put in a MLC all along and could have saved a TON of money.

Thanks!
